We hadn’t had a vacation all year so we (as in JJ) planned a little getaway to the delta the last weekend in December right before New Years. We’ve made some wonderful friends in Cleveland and they had asked us last year to come see the 50 Nights of Lights they have downtown in Cleveland and it just didn’t work out. We had really wanted to go before Christmas this year, but again our schedules didn’t match up but we made it happen the last weekend it was up - better late than never.
I fell in love with Clevland when I went two years ago for Ducks Unlimited State Convention, you can see some pictures from that trip HERE.
We drove over there Friday afternoon and after eating at Crawdad’s in Merigold we went downtown to look at the lights. Just a sidebar for a moment about Crawdad’s, it was PACKED that night but the food was awesome. I had the Crawad’s Catfish Parmesan and it was absolutely to die for. JJ had the hamburger steak and he said it was in his top 3 of hamburger steaks he’s ever had.
It was so COLD that night but we had a great time anyway. The light displays were beautiful, all the stores fronts were still decorated for Christmas, there was music playing, vendors selling hot chocolate and funnel cakes, and tons of kids running around.
The next day we had breakfast at the Farmhouse Table next door to the hotel we were staying in and then Allie and I went to the Grammy Museum while the fellas watched Ole Miss play football. The hotel we were staying at is the Lyric Hotel. Super nice, newly renovated absolutely wonderful and helpful staff. It’s right by Delta State University and definitely worth the money.
The Grammy Museum in Cleveland is amazing. If you love music at all you need to go. They had so many beautiful displays, interactive exhibits, videos, and just everything music that you could want to see. I have loved music my whole life and could have stayed in there for hours if a certain smaller human had not been with me.
I’ve played a piano at the Grammy Museum I guess you could say I’ve made it.The Grammy Museum in Cleveland is only the second Grammy Museum in the world. Honestly, it makes you proud as a Mississippian to know that people so far away in L.A. recognized the impact that Mississippi has had on the music industry.
Because without Mississippi... there would be no American music.

All and all we had a great trip. The weather was great, cold but great, and we got home in time Sunday night to ring in the new year. I have a YouTube video that shows how pretty the lights were and you can see it HERE.
